Public transportation
Oslo
In Oslo, all public transportation is managed by a single company, Ruter.
All public transport in Oslo and the surrounding boroughs are included in one ticketing system. That includes city and regional buses, trams, undergrounds, local trains and ferries. The ferries to Bygdøy are not included. Oslo and the surrounding boroughs are divided into several zones. All of Oslo, including the last stops of the subway system, is included in zone 1.
With Ruter's mobile app (for Android and iPhone) you can buy single, 24-hour, 7-day and 30-day tickets before you get on board.
A single ticket costs 44 KR for one zone (72 KR for two zones).
You cannot purchase tickets on the Ruter website. Download the Ruter app or buy a physical ticket at a sales outlet. You can buy a ticket on board, but only if you are traveling by boat or bus.
You can purchase a new travel card with a ticket or travel money at the Narvesen, 7-Eleven, and Mix kiosks, as well as at the service points at the metro stations in downtown Oslo and at their customer center at Jernbanetorget. See the address here. A new travel card costs 50 kroner. Take care of your travel card, it can be reused. If you already have a travel card, you can top it up with new tickets and travel money. You cannot top up the travel card on their website.
Stavanger
In Stavanger, public transportation is manager by Kolumbus. To buy a ticket, we recommend you download the app (google play store or app store). You can pay by cash on board all buses and ferries. An extra fee is added if you pay by cash on board the bus, boat or train. A single ticket costs NOK 45.
Ferries
Ferries provide regular connections between major Norwegian cities (Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen, Larvik, Kristiansand) and Denmark, Sweden, and Germany.
The Norwegian fjords are easily accessible via express ferries. Tickets, routes, and timetables are available on the Norled website.
